Now you can shop for riding gear in the comfort of your own home. Never before could you hit 20 or 30 different stores and compare prices on apparel, but now with the invention of the internet its only a matter of minutes to find the best price on riding apparel or any other bits you want for your ride. Also the convenience of never having to leave your house and having all your gear delivered to your front door is a nice bonus.
In today’s market for motorcycle apparel and gear you have a plethora of choices as to what you want to wear. There are almost as many makers of quality apparel as there are when you just go clothes shopping. Some of today’s most popular gear is made by Icon. Icon really has its pulse on the market place, they are always pushing the envelope when it comes to design and style. Icon makes pretty much all the gear you could possibly want, jackets, gloves, boots, helmets, and even tank bags. They are probably the most searched for manufacturer of motorcycle gear on the web. One of the newer lines for motorcycle apparel is Arlen Ness. Now Arlen Ness or Ness Tech has made parts for cruiser bikes forever but has recently also decided to enter the apparel market with some really nice looking jackets. Arlen Ness gear is made to appeal more to the cruiser rider where most of the other companies mentioned here are geared towards the sport riding crowd. AGVSport is another well known line, they much like Icon make it all. You can get anything from a jacket to gloves and boots from AGV. AGV Sport makes very high quality gear. Alpinestars is another popular maker of motorcycle apparel. They manufacture helmets, gloves, boots, jackets and even one piece or two piece riding suits. The one piece suits really are more designed to be for track days, offering the best in protection that money can buy. For those of you that enjoy cruising more then sport riding you will find lots of chaps, vests and old school leather jackets are available by a variety of manufacturers as well as their being a lot of generic gear of that type being available. Back in the early biker days if you wanted a jacket you were pretty much stuck sweating it out in a leather jacket even when it was steaming outside. Now you can get mesh jackets that offer as much protection as their leather counterparts. The introduction of mesh jackets was a dream come true for anyone that lives in extremely warm climates. Also many of the gloves now come in a vented format which makes them perfect for warm weather riding. Gloves are now also being made out mesh material to make them even lighter and even more breathable therefore allowing your hands to stay cooler while still offering some protection. Sorry boots are usually still leather and can get quite warm, however in the last few years Icon and a few other manufacturers of apparel have come out with riding shoes which offer some of the same protection as boots but are way more comfortable. Alpinestars makes some really nice ones that double as regular tennis shoes just fine. If you are in the market for quality motorcycle apparel at a discount I would definitely recommend you hit the internet and shop to your hearts content. With so many makers and sites out there take your time and find the gear that you really want.

As leisure activities go they don’t get as action and adrenalin packed as racing around a field of hills and mud on dirt bikes. The rush you get from dirt biking is like nothing else I had experienced until my friend took me along to his favorite weekend pursuit and brought his dirt bikes along, one for me to try. There is something quite primeval about riding such a raw, mechanical beast like a dirt bike and from the first time I revved mine up I knew I would take to it like a duck to water and dirt bikes would become a great hobby of mine, even surpassing some of my other pass times which get the heart thumping like rock climbing and white water rafting.Luckily my friend was experienced with dirt bikes and also a qualified instructor, therefore learning the safety and skills necessary to pick the sport up wasn’t much of an issue – after a few hours I was riding and taking those hills on my dirt bike, and I fell in love. The noise, the rough terrain and the trickery involved in actually staying on your foot and not falling off makes dirt bikes a real fun-packed challenge.I would highly advise people to look at dirt-biking as a potential new leisure pursuit as it is in fact on the rise in most countries – I believe this is down to the stress we all feel from working in those cubicles in our office jobs. Man needs a release and dirt-biking fills the role perfectly. If you are thinking about dirt-biking you should seek out of a professional tutor to get you up to speed on safety and how to handle a dirt bike, and then you’re set and ready to go. Most good motorbike shops will be able to give you a list of courses on dirt bike training and they aren’t that costly, and neither are the bikes themselves.

Mini Chopper bikes, depending on the model, are suitable for adults and for children over the age of 12. Children, however, must always be under adult supervision when riding their mini chopper bike. This is not to say that children can’t ride mini choppers. In fact, there are a growing number of racetracks and go-kart tracks that hold open practice riding for racers of various ages and skill levels. You should follow these simple steps:- Keep your mini chopper in good working order. This will not only make the bike safer, but will also improve its performance.- Wear protective gear, including a helmet and pads for elbows and knees.- Mini Chopper riders should be at least 12 years of age. If younger, parents need to be extremely careful and supervise their children at all times.- You should only operate your mini chopper bike during daytime hours. Night time riding can put you in danger and endanger any pedestrians that may not see you.- You should ride your mini chopper bike on a smooth, hard surface. Do not go off road., when riding your mini chopper bike.- Choose an area to ride your mini chopper bike that is free from obstructions and that has plenty of open space.- Do not ride your mini chopper bike on roads and sidewalks. Doing so is illegal and dangerous.- Consult local laws about riding regulations and legal places to ride your mini chopper bike.- Do not attempt to carry more than one person on a single mini chopper. These bikes are designed for a single person to ride and cannot support weights exceeding 300 lbs.- Do not underestimate the power of your mini chopper bike. Although they are small, some of them are capable of surprisingly high speeds.

Buying a good pair of motorcycle boots can be an exercise in patience unless you know what to look for in motorcycle boots. Here are a few points you can keep in mind when you go searching for one:1. Motorcycle boots should be at least 160 mm in height, and must provide impact protection for the shins, instep and ankles. 2. The soles that are sewn are stronger than the ones that are bonded. Often, the glued soles come off when the rider drags the feet along the road while stopping the bike.3. The soles should be oil resistant and waterproof. You should be able to walk through a puddle. Fortunately, most leather motorcycle boots can manage this with ease. 4. Lighter boots are better in summers. 5. The leather should be ISO 11642 compliant. This is a test of color fastness in water. 6. Your boot should have at least 10 mm clearance from the edge to the upper. 7. Uppers should be abrasion resistant. 8. Leather should be at least 2.5 mm thick and soles should be 4 mm not including the cleats.9. Contoured boot soles aid in traction and should be made from a durable material.10. The leather used should be thick enough to offer protection but supple enough to be comfortable and soft.11. A flex panel in the ankle area is very comfortable. It allows you to flex your ankles while applying the brakes, or even while walking. 12. Flex sections are missing in engineer-style slip-on boots because the wide upper allows enough movement within the boot. However, slip on boots are also likely to slip off. 13. Its best to have boots secured to your ankle with laces, zippers, hook-and-loop straps or a combination of the above.12. The lining in a motorcycle boot is very important. It should keep you dry, ventilated and snug in all kinds of weather. Wearing the right socks can also make a big difference. Stores that sell serious backpacking equipment will in all likelihood have high-tech socks.
13. Functional motorcycle boots must provide enough tread for stability. A tread pattern that runs sideways as well as fore and aft is great.14. Thick rubber soles help to absorb vibration. You can also consider some padded inserts. There are enough available at the local stores.15. Motorcycle boots should provide adequate heel and toe cups designed to flex under pressure.

You should always survey the online companies by going through the testimonials and reviews of their old or existing customers in order to get the idea about their products and services. Without warning, the sky turns an ominous shade of grey. A huge menacing cloud , swollen and black, suddenly releases a torrent of rain. In a matter of moments you’re drenched and shivering from the cold….Like most seasoned bikers, I’ve been searching in vain for the the ideal rain-gear to protect myself from the elements without having to compromise on freedom of movement. Luckily a few months back, a friend, who is an avid horseback rider, turned me on to the perfect solution. The oilskin coat:From it’s humble beginning as the monsoon cape worn hundreds of years ago by sailors worldwide, Australian oilskin coats, jackets and pants have evolved into the emblem of those looking for the ultimate in harsh weather protection. It all began in 1890 when a Scottish sailor by the name of Edward LeRoy discovered that torn sails from his ship could be recycled into long coats by treating the canvas material with a mixture of various oils. This transformed them into superb wet weather gear.Word spread land-side about the effectiveness of LeRoy’s coats in rain and cold, and settlers of the outback acquired this legendary waterproof material to protect themselves from the severe weather of the Australian Bush. The oilskin coat was further adapted to life inland by adding an extension in the back of the garment to protect the seat of the horse rider’s saddle, in addition to leg straps to keep the coat securely in place during strong wind, and sleeves that were extra long to protect the arms while extended.Continuing on with this tradition, modern oilskin clothing is designed with the same wet weather-proofing techniques in mind.Made of tightly woven 100% cotton that is infused with a unique natural oil based formula, oilskin apparel offers maximum defense against snow, wind, and rain. Oilskin coats, jackets and pants provide an impenetrable water barrier that keeps you bone dry and able to keep riding, even through the heaviest rain.Unlike many synthetics this material also has a very natural feel, and offers excellent breath-ability, allowing body moisture to escape, ensuring the driest ride possible. The drawstring waist and gusseted rear vent enables you to slip the jacket over the back so water runs off the bike, leaving your seat dry. Snap together straps also secures the coat around your legs when the wind kicks up.And since the oil blend is not water soluble, any incidence of water touching the fabric simply runs off, ensuring total weather protection for motorcyclists who need to stay warm and dry, even under the most challenging conditions.

Thanks to the internet you can find discount motorcycle tires on most motorcycle sites. The discounts vary depending on the site but they are usually cheaper then what your local dealer will charge you. To combat this dealers have come up with several things. One is that they will match the price of the tire you found on the web. The other is that they will charge you a fee of somewhere around the $25 range if you bring in a tire for mounting and will not charge you at all if you by the tire from them. Since getting a motorcycle tire on your a rim without a machine is really damn near impossible. This is how the dealers are trying to discourage you from buying online. When choosing a motorcycle tire you need to ask yourself what kind of riding you will be doing and how much life you expect out of the tire. Generally the stickier the tire the bettor it will handle and the more aggressive you can ride with good grip. The longer lasting tires are less sticky and you give up some handling for longevity. When I say sticky what I am talking about actually has to do with the compound of the tire. The rubber compound of a tire will dictate its life expectancy, the softer the compound the stickier the tire, the faster it will need to be replaced. The harder the compound, the longer the tire will last but you are giving up a little on the stickiness. For cruiser bikes generally a harder compound is acceptable because cruiser’s are ridden long distances but are not ridden as aggressively so it is better to get a harder compound therefore giving the tire a longer life expectancy. However if you are an aggressive rider even on a cruiser you might want to seek a bit softer compound so you can get a bit better handling. For sport bikes their is no question, you will want a softer compound tire to give you the best handling possible. Now their are usually varying degrees of soft compound motorcycle tires available. You will find some are made for the track. These are extremely sticky and will need to be to often to be any good for the street. So if you are looking for a good street tire for a sport bike the best selection is a soft compound tire that tis made for aggressive street riding. An example of that kind of tire would be a Dunlop 207 or a Bridgestone BT014. For track days you may want to get a different set of tires for extreme grip. Motorcycle tire manufactures are plentiful these days. You more recognized makers are Dunlop, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Michelin, and Metzeler. All of which make excellent motorcycle tires. You will find different people swear by different brands. Some just like Dunlop and others swear by Pirelli. I think this part of choosing a tire is a lot like some guys will only by a Ford and other swear by Chevy. These are all quality manufacturers of tires and all are good, the choice is up to you. When it comes to choosing a motorcycle tire don’t let the price be the biggest factor. Get a good quality tire designed for your riding style. Since you only have two tires on your bike it becomes vital to keep them in proper condition. If you have ever had a blowout in your car imagine that on two wheels. Its one of the toughest situations are rider will ever have to face, therefore I recommend that you don’t worry about cheap so much when it comes to tires but go with quality.
