Save Money With Alloy-Wheel Repair

Alloy wheels can make quite an impact to the overall look of a car. Further, it can make a big difference to the functioning of the car.Over the years, car manufacturers have taken a cue from the popularity of specialized alloy wheels and have opted to install modified wheels for their stock cars. Alloy’s are now a common factor in most cars but along with its growing popularity comes several concerns regarding its maintenance.Alloy wheel repairIt is a common misconception that alloy wheel repair is almost next to impossible. Most people believe that it can be a complete waste of effort and money. However, alloy wheels can actually be repaired to a great extent. Alloy repair is in fact a well studied operation. Many professional wheel repair companies can undertake the job perfectly.Common alloy wheel problemsThe most significant of damages that can affect an alloy wheel are radial runout, lateral runout and cracks. These damages will not only make the wheel look ugly but it can also greatly affect the car’s driving performance. Let’s take a closer look!Radial runout affects the balance of the tire across its diameter. This results in the tire moving up and down with respect to its central axis while rotating. Lateral runout is damage that affects the balance of the tire across its width. Lateral run out is often left undiagnosed as the tire can look true but balance testing will prove otherwise. In the case of lateral run out if there is significant damage it will often be irreparable. Cracks, depending on the location can be repaired but in certain extreme cases it is safer to get a replacement alloywheel than to use one that has undergone alloywheel repair.Repair for non-forged wheelsAlloy - wheel repair is often recommended for wheels that are non-forged. Forged alloy wheels are tougher and can also be more expensive. Most of the time, forged wheel repair merely consists of having the wheel refinished. Two-piece and three-piece alloy wheels are also more prone to damage as the outer lips of the wheel are commonly made of softer alloy materials.Alloy wheel repair- the right timingThe best time to plan for alloy wheel repair is during the warmer months. Normally, alloy repair can take anywhere from three to five hours depending on the extent of the damage. If you want to minimize the damage, use high pressure especially when you are using low profile tires. However, it is important to make sure that the wear of the tire is still even.Alloy’s are an expensive investment. Fortunately, alloy repair companies offer you the option to get your wheels to look and function as good as new.

Have you ever wondered why some cars don’t start in the winter?

The obvious things are; bad spark plugs, clogged air filter, dirty carburetor, water in the gas tank, bad spark plug wires and sometimes even some contaminant in the gas. Well that’s the obvious but believe it or not your car gets cold, I mean really cold so you need to keep it warm. The obvious thing that you probably know about is that you can purchase a block heater to keep the radiator fluid (antifreeze) warm, they come in two flavors. One can attach to the radiator hose (that’s the easy one to install) and the other gets mounted in the engine block itself which is harder to do but is more efficient since it warms the engine block antifreeze and not only the antifreeze in the radiator line which eventually makes it to the engine. By the way this kind of heater goes into a frost plug which is on the lower side. If you want to keep your car warm and don’t want to install a heater you can by making sure when you park your car, you don’t park it in an area where the wind can get at it. Imagine if you were out in the cold, would you be warmer standing in the middle of an open field or would it be warmer standing in a sheltered (from the wind) area. It does make a big difference so here are a few tips. Try to accomplish this depending on the existing situation.

1. Park your car between two cars.
2. Pull your car all the way up to the snow bank to prevent wind from getting underneath.
3. Never back your car in to a parking space, although it is easier to jump start it but if you do you will probably be jump starting it.
4. If possible cover your vehicle making sure the cover reaches the ground.
Well by now you get the idea, keep your car warm and it will start.

Be Environmentally Conscious by Economically Purchasing Re-Refined Motor Oil

As the earth’s precious nonrenewable energy supplies reduce in size each year, it is important to look to new ways of conserving and preserving the known supplies today, so they may last as long as possible. One economically and environmentally conscious action all consumers can take is the purchase of re-refined motor oil for their personal vehicles, and to pressure localities to use re-refined petroleum products in their mass transit systems and commercial fleets.Re-refined motor oil is motor oil that has been used by consumers, deposited at many filling stations and lube centers, and then recycled for reuse by the public. It has been cleansed of all the containments acquired by miles of use in a process called vacuum distillation. Hydro-treatment removes any additional unwanted chemicals, much like the way refineries remove base oil from naturally occurring crude. New additives are then added to make sure the re-refined oil adheres to all industry performance levels. Oil does not ever lose its intrinsic value as a lubricator and cooling agent; through many laboratory tests, chemists have arrived at the conclusion that re-refined oil performs and lasts just as long as virgin motor oil. Many consumers worry that re-refined motor oil loses some of its lubricating or cold starting properties as compared to virgin motor oil. Major automakers such as Ford, GM, Daimer-Chrysler, and Mercedes Benz have conducted their own testing and stated that the use of re-refined motor oil is not only a viable option, but have also gone on record stating that the use of the product in no way violates or voids their manufacturer warranties on their engines. In fact, every new Mercedes Benz vehicle is pre-filled with re-refined motor oil straight from the assembly line!North American transportation companies have used re-refined motor oil in their fleets for many years. The United States Post Office, for example has been using re-refined motor oil in all its 73,000 vehicles for over a decade. The City of

Chicago has purchased and used re-refined oil in all its emergency vehicles (fire and police) since 1992. Not only has

Snohomish County, Washington, used re-refined oil in its 1242 county vehicles, but the county has also contracted nearly 3000 independent oil analysis, concluding that the use of re-refined oil has in no way compromised vehicle performance versus virgin motor oil.
Using re-refined oil has the important duality of providing less need for foreign oil reserves to run the nation’s millions of vehicles while also eliminating waste material and conserving new supplies for later use. Re-refined oil is, on average the same cost, or less than virgin motor oil. Same cost, eco-friendly, and high performance - all attributes that make re-refined motor oil a smart alternative.

Dealing With a Motorcycle Crash

It’s a fact of life: there are accidents involved with motorcycles every year with more motorcyclists lying in the hospital or worse. No matter how safe you drive, getting in an accident with a motorcycle is always a possibility every time you get on your bike. If you do some preparation now, you’ll be better equipped when (or if) you ever find yourself in a motorcycle accidentNegligence is the common cause of accidents involving motorcycles. Since they are small compared to typical vehicles on the road, they can easily be maneuvered within traffic and can hit another vehicle at a very fast speed. Most motorists who are unable to stop just in time can meet an unfortunate collision. Weather also plays an important role in the safety of the bikers. Rain, snow, blizzard and other weather conditions leave hazardous roads not only for this two-wheeled vehicle but for all types of vehicles as well. The wheels of the motorcycle are always in a weak position whenever the road is slippery, making bikers accident-prone. Whatever reason for the mishap - the motorcycle riders are usually always left with the damages. These include physical damages such as bone injuries and bruises, as well as property damage brought about by the collision of both parties.Perhaps when you encounter an accident like this, the last thing on your mind is to fill out necessary forms and reports and undergo police investigations asking about the incident. However, after a biker would brush off all the dust and debris from the collision, he must immediately assess himself on how much damage the accident caused him. This is where you start thinking of how to deal with the aftermath of the accident.First off, keep a clear record in your mind of all the scratches, bruises, broken bones, and other injuries in case you have to file a compensation claim against the other party, especially if you know that the crash is not your fault but the other party’s. It is your civil and legal right to have a compensation claim. It would help you get reimbursements of the money you’ve paid or will pay for hospital bills. It would also help you calculate the approximate loss of earnings if you will be unable to go to work because of the accident. Also, you could get a clear idea of the damages to your motorcycle and motorcycle accessories.Secondly, whether you caused the accident or not, it is your duty to report the situation to a highway patrol officer or state trooper officer at once. Then, recall what exactly happened before and during the collision. It is very important to make this call because some states suspend driver’s licenses if they discover that you did not make a report by the time the accident happened.Thirdly, you need to take into account not only the damage done to the motorcycle, but also any damage done to accessories damaged in the accident such as motorcycle saddle bags. If you think that the destructed property value is more than $500, you must also make an effort to report to the department of motor vehicles in your state - even if takes you a day or two to do so. Don’t rely on hearsays or second hand information especially since procedures are different from one state to another.Fourthly, regardless of whose fault the accident was, bear in mind that the department of motor vehicles in your state could check not only your injuries and damaged properties but also the type of insurance protection you had during the time of the motorcycle crash. This is why it is advisable to have proper insurance coverage before hitting the roads with a motorcycle. Aside from all these, motorcycle accidents, in general, would also mean a permanent record in your driving profile.Given all this, one can safely say that riding a motorcycle is truly a very serious business. Undergo proper training on motorcycle driving and always wear proper equipment such as helmets before attempting to get out on the road.

Is The Car You Drive An Outward Expression Of Who You Are ?

The person who drives the Volkswagen van, for example, is far different from the person who drives the BMW. Many of us have a special attachment to our cars, whether they are vintage classics or modern-day SUVs. We spend a great deal of time in our cars, commuting to work, driving the kids to soccer practice, and going out for groceries. As a result, many people treat and care for their cars with great attention. And this certainly is not a bad idea. The car that is well cared for will last longer, look better, and, should you decide to sell or trade, will retain a higher retail and trade-in value. One way to keep your vehicle looking its best is to treat it regularly with a car wash and wax. While some people opt for the drive through car wash, these can add up very quickly, and often do not allow sufficient drying time before you have to drive off into heavy traffic and dirty streets. One way to quickly add more dirt and grime to your car is to drive it into traffic while wet with a fresh coat of wax! Obviously, this completely defeats the purpose of a car wash and wax! A more economical way is to do a home car wash and wax. It doesn’t take as much time as you might think, and it’s a great way to enjoy a beautiful afternoon. What’s more, a home car wash and wax uses significantly less water than commercial car washes, which is good for the environment. You do not need nearly that much water to clean your car effectively. All you need is a good quality car wash and wax product, a bucket, hose, and non-abrasive towel. That’s it! When choosing a cleaning product, many people opt for whatever is around the house. However, some cleaning agents, such as dishwashing liquid, will clean right through the wax on your car, leaving it vulnerable to the elements. Even dishwashing detergent labeled “gentle” is not appropriate. The “gentle” refers to how it will affect your hands, not how well it cuts through grease, grime, and wax. A better solution is to choose a product specifically designed as a car wash and wax. This type of car wash liquid, in contrast to a dishwashing or other liquid cleaning agent, will not damage the finish on your car or scratch the paint. Even some liquid household cleaners that appear “soft” can contain abrasives that can cause many tiny scratches on your car, leading to a dull appearance and rusting vulnerability. A car wash solution is designed to clean, shine, and protect. Many are designed for multiple purposes, combining both cleaning and waxing agents, which make the job of cleaning your car that much easier. It’s a one-step process. When cleaning your car, use the “top down” cleaning method. The concept is that you start at the top and work your way down, so that the dirt flows downward and off your car. In other words, allow gravity to help you. Fill a bucket with cool water and either follow the directions on the car wash solution product label or simply add a small amount. These products are concentrated, and you don’t need much to obtain a good clean. If your car has some buildup, such as dirt, road tar, grease, or bugs, consider using a car mitt specifically designed for use on vehicles with a car wash liquid. Again, these products are designed to not scrape or scratch the finish on your car. Also, when using a quality car wash and wax product, there is no need to use a high-powered spray nozzle. Some people do not use any type of a nozzle at all, but simply wet the car with a light flow of water from the hose. Dip the mitt in the bucket so that the dirt will fall off as you remove it; this helps ensure that no dirt will scratch your car. After all, there’s no point in using a good quality car wash and wax if you’re only going to scrape your car with the dirt you’re trying to remove! Use gentle scrubbing motions with the mitt, and rinse and dry as soon as you are finished. Many absorbent towels are available for use on vehicles and other specialty uses that won’t scratch or damage. A good, 100% cotton towel is best. To ensure that you don’t damage the finish, use blotting motions rather than wiping. If your car wash solution is designed for both cleaning and waxing, you’re done!

Cleaning Your Wheels Can Be Done Easily And Quickly !

Some people give advice that you shouldn’t wash your rims with a pressure washer. Our experience has been that you indeed can use a power washer without causing any damage to your wheel. Just use a washer that can have its pressure adjusted. You may have discovered that cleaning your car rims by hand can be pretty difficult, but the job can be made a lot easier by properly using a pressure washer.Cleaning rims using a pressure washer can be superior in eliminating the tough stains of ugly caked-on brake dust and grease from your wheels. If you don’t own a portable pressure washer, you’ll be able to buy one at very affordable prices online or at your neighborhood home improvement store. To do a really good cleaning job you should also purchase a good, non abrasive rim cleaner. There are many top quality brands available online. It only takes a little bit of rim cleaning solution to effectively clean rims in conjunction with a power washer. Here’s an easy step by step method.

  1. Step back a couple of feet and a bit off to the side of the rim then rinse the rim from about 8 inches away. Be sure to spray into the crevices and spray from different angles.
  2. Spray the rim using a circular motion around the outside of the wheel and be sure to rinse the tire as well.
  3. Put the sprayer wand down and apply tire cleaning solution onto the tire.
  4. Using the pressure washer, rinse the whole tire this time from about 5 inches away.
  5. Now spray the rim with rim cleaner generously, following label directions. Usually you’ll have to leave it sit on the rim for a few minutes to lift the debris.
  6. Rinse the cleaner from the rim from about 8 inches away with the pressure washer.

Note:

  1. Always clean the rims before you clean your tires and only clean your wheels after you’ve cleaned your car body. You don’t want all that dirt from the body washing back onto your clean rims.
  2. Dry your rims with an old bath towel. Optionally you can apply a light coat of car wax which will keep your rims clean longer and make your next washing easier by reducing the amount of dust that will “stick” to your rims.

How Long Can You Keep Your Old Tires?

When thinking about tire safety, it is important to consider two things: age and use. Vehicles driven daily are typically driven 15,000 miles a year. But there are situations where cars put on even fewer miles. This includes: being driven only on the weekends, never driving in the rain, “show” cars, and cars that are stored for extended periods of time. So, some tires on these types of cars put on less than 100,000. But it doesn’t mean that they are safe tires. Tires deteriorate over time and can “age out” wear out before they wear out. In a statement from the British Rubber Manufacturers Association (BRMA) issued on June 5, 2001 regarding the age of tires they state, “BRMA members strongly recommend that unused tires should not be put into service if they are over 6 years old and that all tires should be replaced 10 years from the date of their manufacture.” Tire age can be accelerated by a variety of environmental factors, such as sunlight exposure and coastal climates. Poor storage and infrequent use of your vehicle are other things that can accelerate tire age.If you keep your tires in ideal conditions, the tire age can go as high as 10 years from its manufacture date. But ideal conditions are the exception rather than the rule. And the worst part is that you cannot tell the safety of an old tire just by looking at it since there are no conclusive tests for the safety of tires without destroying the tire itself!Due to this, some European car manufacturers of high performance sports cars, coupes and sedans have hedged their bets, stating in their owners manuals that the tire age should reach no higher than 6 years. How Better Rubber Makes Tires That Are SafeThere have been a lot of changes in rubber compounds since Charles Goodyear discovered how to cure rubber when he baked a combination of natural rubber and sulfur on his family’s kitchen stove. Thus, he would convert an unappreciated raw material into many useful products. Goodyear cross-linked sulfur with polymers that, when exposed to heat, would help make rubber durable and at the same time maintain its elasticity. The main focus of new research has been finding tire age inhibitors. Sulfur molecules are one such tire age inhibitor that is reactivated every time they are exposed to heat, making the rubber harder.Nowadays, rubber in tires has oil in it that tends to migrate into the tires’ under tread/casing and evaporate into the air. In the process of this, the tire compound releases oil and gets harder. If you can’t quite visualize this, go into any tire store and take a big whiff. You’ll smell the oil there. Before curing, most tires are coated with a mold release agent that is makes it easier to remove from their mold after curing. If it’s a little hard to visualize, think about spraying “Pam” on a fry pan before pouring on the batter for pancakes. This increases the safety of tires because some of the mold release agent gets “cooked” onto the surface of the cured tire, which prevents all the oil from evaporating. What Is The Right Tire Age?In most cases, most street tires are good for 6-8 years if maintained properly. Don’t forget though that this includes the time the tires spent from the manufacturer’s plant to the dealer to you. So, keep this in mind when you are determining tire age. Most tires get to you anywhere between 3-6 months. Some stay longer with the tire manufacturer, but generally all tires that go on your car are less than a year old. So, you should not get an old tire from any tire manufacturer.Which Tires Last Longest? If you want to buy a tire based on how long it will last, you have to consider thread compound. The more aggressive its compound … the shorter tire life. Below is a list of tires from longest-lasting to shortest-lasting:

  • Max Performance
  • Ultra High Performance tires
  • DOT-legal competition tires

Bottom line: if you want to avoid safe tire issues go with tires that last long and properly maintain them.

Take a Little Time and Get the Brilliant Shine for Your Car You Always Wanted !

Why do cars exposed in the dealer’s showroom look so brilliantly shiny and why can’t we ever achieve this with our own cars? Does it depend on the car care products we use? The secret is being revealed in the current article teaching you how to get the best shine from your car. First you have to know that a very important part of the whole car-polishing process is carefully washing the car. A recent Popular Mechanics magazine states that if your car is regularly cleaned, it will last longer. And here is how you should properly wash your car. First you have to thoroughly rinse it off, trying to remove all the loose pieces of dirt. Then apply specific car wash soap using a soft sponge or a towel. Don’t use regular household items and chemicals because they can strip the wax or sealant right off. Start from the top washing one panel at a time and then rinse not letting the suds and soap dry on the paint. Upon finishing this, dry off with clean terry or microfiber towels or with a chamois. After washing the car you should look at the bumpers and the roof and hidden places such as those behind the tires, because some of the contaminants such as bug splatter and tree sap are very hard to remove just by rinsing off. These spots will need to be rewashed with more pressure or even with a contaminant remover. There are different kinds of removers, so for the best results follow the directions on the bottle of the one you have bought. Some of the spot removers are foaming cleaners and others are much thicker and have to be left sitting on the dirt for a while until it dissolves. There are special formulas for road tar, since removing it from the surface of the car may be more difficult than expected. After applying the spray according to the instructions rinse the problem areas off and dry. In case there are some visible defects in the paint, you can use a cleaner wax to smooth them. Turtle Wax is considered as the most durable product of this type which at the same time is cheap - only $2 a bottle, and gives the best shine to your car. Apply the wax to the problem area and then start rubbing it in with small circular movements. Again, as you did with the car washing, do one panel at a time then let dry until it turns to a white lees and then buff with a clean terry cloth. If there are still some imperfections on the surface, you can repeat the whole procedure. http://yourcar2day.com The next stage - polishing, requires a polymer car polish which can be bought from Walmart at a very reasonable price - approximately 2 to 5 dollars. The advantages of the polymer car polish are numerous: it is liquid and therefore very easy to apply and lasts up to one year or fifty car washes and, of course, it sells at a very low price. Spread the polish on the whole car and buff dry. For the best results, repeat this a couple of times. http://www.vehiclescoop.com And as you can see, having a vehicle as shiny as the cars exposed in the auto shows is not a goal that you can’t achieve. It’s quite easy and you are not spending any big money on it. Just take a little time and put some efforts and here it is - the brilliant shine for your car, exactly the way you always wanted it to be.

How to Change the Engine Oil of Your Motocycle

Before you start changing your motorcycle engine oil, you must place the tools you need within reach. Include tools such as wrench, screwdrivers or pliers just in case the filler caps have been tightly screwed. You should also prepare rags and containers for the used oil. Your motorcycle must be placed in an area that you can afford to get dirty, messy and greasy after the changing process. It is advisable to raise your motorcycle using the kick-stand rather than the side or rear stands. Place the container under the motorcycle where you think the oil is going to flow.

The next thing that you should do is to warm up your engine. This is to soften any hard particles in your engine oil. Then turn the engine off to cool for a bit. Proceed removing the filler cap when the engine is slightly warm. This enables the oil to drain quickly. Use necessary tools if it is tightly screwed.

Locate the drain plug and doff it so that the oil would drain. During the last few turns at the drain plug, be cautious since the hot oil may start to spill out anytime soon. Make sure that the empty can is ready for the draining oil.

Remove the filthy drain plug crush washer and install a new one. Drain plug crush washers are either made from copper or aluminum. It is a small disc to be placed under the drain plug that helps in sealing the motorcycle engine oil. Drain plug crush washers are also made to bend under pressure. More or less, drain plug crush washers value at a dollar each - which means they’re really very affordable, hence, there’s simply no excuse for you not to get several pieces! Every month, or every time you change your motorcycle engine oil, make sure that you install a new drain plug crush washer afterwards.

Using a clean rag, wipe the tip of the oil drain plug. This is to remove small metallic particles in the magnetic part of the drain plug. Little pieces of silvers of metals are shed by the motorcycle engine. These tiny pieces are usually jammed at the edge or at the tip of the drain plug.

Look for the oil filter in your motorcycle. The location of the oil filter varies or depends on what motorcycle model you have. It is best to consult your manual so that you won’t have a hard time finding it. Remove it tightly screwed filter using a filter removal tool. See to it that a rubber ring comes along with the filter as you take it off.

Clean the area of the motorcycle where the oil filter is located. Dip your finger into the fresh oil and use it to wipe the dirt on the location of the oil filter. Then carefully screw back a new oil filter.

Put the drain plug back and fill it up with new motorcycle engine oil. Make sure that it is already grime-free and fastened securely to prevent the oil from spilling. Put only an ample amount of motorcycle engine oil that is specified in your motorcycle manual.
