It is an exciting time for a teenager when they legally sit behind the wheel of a car by themselves for the first time. It is sort of like a right of passing, a time in which adulthood seems a little more within reach, or even a time in which they realize they are getting a little more freedom. Whatever the thoughts of the teenager at that very moment, mom and dad have something else to contend with and that is the car insurance premium.By this point the car insurance should already be taken care of, but now there are many payments to come. Aside from making the teenager get a job, the premium has to be paid somehow and oftentimes it is not what many would call “pretty.” That is why it is a great idea to find out what ways can reduce a teenager’s auto insurance policy so that mom and dad has one less worry on their plate when it comes to having a teenager behind the wheel of the car.Fortunately, there are ways to reduce the cost of auto insurance for teenagers, which is certainly good news for parents. Since teenagers are considered inexperienced, that puts them on the list of high risk drivers, which is why their premiums are so high. So here are some ways, and some with the teenager’s cooperation, that can reduce the cost of the auto insurance policy for a teenager:• Raise the deductible: If the deductible is $500, then raise it to $2,000 or an amount that results in a comfortable payment. Just keep in mind that if an accident should occur, it is important that the deductible is one that can be paid.• Good student discount: When students carry a certain grade in school, the insurance company will apply a good student discount. This does require bringing the teenager’s report card to the insurance company each time it is received to ensure the discount can stay.• Make the teenager the primary driver on an older vehicle, which is usually the cheapest vehicle. Insurance tends to be more expensive if the teenager is the primary driver on the most expensive car.• Take a defensive driving course: If the student takes a driving course and provides proof that to the insurance company that they passed it, then the insurance company will apply a discount since that makes the teenager less of a risk behind the wheel.• Buy the teenager a cheaper car: Sometimes it is feasible to buy a cheaper car for the teenager to use until they turn 18 or the age in which insurance premium will go down.• Buy a car with a high safety rating: Safety rating has a lot to do with how much the premium is on a car. The lower the safety rating the higher the insurance. A car with a great safety rating will be cheaper.• Be sure to shop around: Some companies are cheaper than others, so it is good to get insurance quotes from at least three insurance companies to see which one offers the best rates for teenagers.Although teenagers tend to be more reckless behind the wheel of a car, that doesn’t mean the insurance premiums have to reflect it. Also, not all teenagers are in car accidents, but the premiums are based on the probability due to inexperience. Needless to say, by implementing the above steps, a lower insurance premium can definitely be achieved and mom and dad can at least feel relieved about one aspect of the experience.

Better think again as there are a number of different types of hybrid vehicles available and even more on the way. Buyers need to be informed and realize that hybrid vehicles can be drastically different in terms of both technology and the hit to your checkbook. In the following article I will breakdown the different technologies available and help you determine what is best for you.
Full Hybrids
At this point most people would agree that these are the best types of hybrids currently available. They operate using two separate propulsions systems, the internal combustion engine and the electric motor which can work independently of each other. Under certain driving conditions, typically low speed, the car can operate purely on the electric motor. More…Full hybrids use regenerative braking which takes energy that would normally be lost and uses it to charge the hybrid battery packs. Full hybrids usually achieve very good fuel efficiency. At this point full hybrids can be more expensive than the other type hybrids cars, but the price should come down as popularity increases. An example of a full hybrid is the Toyota Prius.
Mild Hybrids
Car manufacturers in a rush to capitalize on hybrid sales, created a breed of hybrid vehicles called mild hybrids. Upon closer examination you will come to realize that many of these “mild hybrids” are as much a hybrid car as a vehicle with a turbocharger, which is why many people do not even consider these hybrid vehicles. In a mild hybrid car the electric motor is not connected to the powertrain like in a full hybrid. The electric motor will assist the internal combustion engine, but is incapable or propelling the vehicle on its own. Mild hybrids certainly aren’t a bad thing but they do have the tendency to mislead the consumer. They are much cheaper to manufacture, are not as complex, and do achieve a slight increase in gas mileage. The Chevrolet Malibu hybrid is one example of a mild hybrid and it only nets approximately 2mpg more than its non hybrid counterpart.
Plug-In Hybrids
Plug-In hybrids at this time are not available from any car manufacturer, but you can expect to see them in the near future. The plug-in hybrid uses the internal combustion engine only as a backup to the electric motor. These hybrids can be plugged into a normal household electrical outlet to charge, but in addition they can also use the same charging capabilities of a full hybrid. While full hybrids utilize the electric and internal combustion engine all the time, plug-in hybrids will only use the internal combustion engine as a backup when the electric motors batteries run out of juice. At this point the car will operate as a full hybrid. Plug-In hybrids are expected to achieve better fuel efficiency than the other hybrids and many people see this technology as the future of hybrid technology. At this time there are a few companies that will convert your full hybrid, like a Toyota Prius, into a plug-in hybrid, but they are more of a novelty at this point as they are cost prohibitive.
Performance Hybrid
Electric motors can offer instant torque unlike a conventional combustion engine. Some companies realized that you can take a smaller gasoline motor and pair it with an electric motor to get the performance of a much larger engine, and also get good fuel efficiency. A good example of this would be the Lexus GS450h which is capable of going 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, but gets a respectable 25mpg city / 28mpg freeway. The great thing about performance hybrids are the cars can get the performance of a V8 engine, but get the fuel efficiency of a smaller motor.
In closing, be sure to do your homework when buying a hybrid car as some hybrids might not be what you expected in terms of fuel efficiency or price. A car can have a badge that says hybrid on it but only get 17mpg. All of the above technologies have their place and it should be very exciting to see what the future holds for hybrid technology.

Many renters are under the false impression that the insurance their renter has on the home is enough to cover any losses within it. These can losses can be a result of anything ranging from theft to fire or another catastrophe such as earthquake or tornado. However, the insurance that the landlord holds on the property is only for the structure itself and not for the contents within it. That is why it is very important for renters to acquire renters insurance to protect their belongings. There are three kinds of coverage provided by renters insurance. These are:Coverage of personal propertyThis coverage replaces personal property in instances in which it has been stolen, vandalized, damaged by fire, smoke, or windstorms, or damaged through leaks in the plumbing and even explosions. Some of the more expensive items such as furs, silver, and jewelry may not be covered by the insurance policy, so it is possible that additional insurance may need to be purchased in order to cover these items if the renter prefers to do so.In order for the renter to determine how much insurance is enough, they should do an inventory of all belongings such as furniture, clothes, electronics, appliances, tools, kitchen utensils, sports equipment, and other items, and then total up the value of this property in order to determine how much money would need to be paid out if something were to happen to these items. This will determine how much coverage is needed and will also determine the amount of the premium that is paid monthly, quarterly, every six months, or yearly.Coverage for additional living expensesThis second type of renters insurance coverage pays for the renter to live elsewhere if the home is in a condition in which it cannot be lived in while it is being repaired after some sort of damage has occurred. This insurance covers the cost of the hotel or motel room, restaurant bills from having to eat out all of the time as a result of not being able to inhabit the home, and any other expenses that may occur as a result of the situation. This coverage is usually equal to 30% to 50% of the amount of the policy. What this means is that if the coverage is $100,000, then the renter is covered up to $50,000 if the policy allows for the maximum of 50%. If not, then a minimum of $30,000 in living expenses are covered. This can actually pay the living expenses of the insured for quite some time.Personal liability coverageThis is the coverage that can protect the insured from such unfortunate events as lawsuits. This insurance comes in handy if the renter is found to be liable for damaging someone’s property or injuring someone and should cover the amount of all assets if the renter is sued. Most choose to get the $100,000 coverage in order to protect their belongings. Why is this important to the renter? Well, it is important to everyone since accidents do happen. An accident can occur on the property that is the renter’s fault or can happen at any other location. It is good to have all assets and belongings protection in case such an event occurs. So this is why it is important to have renters insurance. If the renter is robbed or some other unfortunate event occurs, it is great to have that coverage in place rather than be in the situation of having to start all over with their own cash. This can make living much easier when a disaster occurs.

Automobile accidents are responsible for the injury or death or thousands of children and young adults each year. Many of these events could be prevented by proper use of seat belts and other safety features of cars.Outside of a car, it is important for children to know how dangerous moving vehicles can be. When playing outside, never chase balls or other objects into the street without looking for traffic, and never run between parked cars into the street as it is hard for drivers to see over them. Teaching children these behaviors at a young age is an excellent way to prevent accidents in the future. In the car, there are a set of effortless rules that new drivers and young passengers should always follow. The way to prevent most serious injuries is to simply always buckle up. Even if no one else in the car is wearing one and the trip is just around the block, it is important to wear one regardless. In a case like this, it wouldn’t hurt to insist that everyone else buckle up as well to ensure their safety. When wearing a seatbelt, older children should be tall enough to sit without slouching with their feet on the floor. The lap-shoulder belt system will not fit most children until they are about 4’9” tall and weigh about 80 pounds. The lap portion of the belt should fit low and tight across the upper thighs, while the shoulder portion should fit over the shoulder and chest. Although it may be more comfortable, never put the shoulder belt under the arm or behind the back of the child.Reckless behavior in and around automobiles is also a large contributor to the injury and death rate. Never stick arms, legs, or any other body part out of the window of a moving car. If another vehicle is passing too close it could cause serious injury. One of the most dangerous but easily preventable behaviors is drunk driving. Never try to drive after drinking, and never ride with anyone who has been drinking. It is important to always have a designated driver, or at least someone to keep keys hidden.New and young drivers cause many of the accidents because they may have not yet learned how to handle a car properly, may drive at speeds to fast for the conditions, and are more likely to perform risky behaviors. Although they are commonly given a negative image, being a back-seat driver can save lives by telling a reckless driver to be more attentive or to slow down.Concerning very young children, there is even more information to be aware of related to accidents and safety. Generally, the back seat is the safest place in a car accident, and any child under 12 years should ride there, especially if the vehicle has a passenger side are bag. Infants should be placed in rear facing car seats in the back seat until at least 1 year of age or around 20 lbs. Forward facing seats are acceptable after this point. In either case, always read the child restraint manual for proper and effective installation and use. It is recommended that children use a safety seat until at they are at least 40 pounds and then use a booster seat that will help the lap-shoulder system fit well.It is important to remember that injury or death from an automobile accident can happen to anyone, not just children and younger drivers. Always promote safe behaviors near roads, behind the wheel, and also the lifesaving benefits of using safety belts and child safety seats correctly.
