As the price of gas continues to spiral upward more and more consumers are considering using generic gas from gas stations that are not affiliated with international gas companies. The question in many consumers minds is, will I be getting the same quality of gas from XYZ station as I would get from Exxon or Shell? Will the XYZ gas be OK for my car?The answer plain and simple is, there is not much difference between the generic gas and the branded gas other than some additives which each company has added to it’s gas. To really understand why it is so similar a quick look at how the gas refining system works makes the picture clear.Gasoline produced at refineries is a generic product. A good example to illustrate the gas terminal concept is
California where all gas sold there has to meet the same environmental specifications. Since all the gas in
California has to be to the same specifications it doesn’t matter whose gas the refiners use, it’s all the same. Because of this, the refiners often trade gasoline and store gasoline at shared terminals where all the gas is in common tanks.
The gasoline that is produced at one refinery is not really different than another refinery. They all produce what one would call generic gas. It is the chemicals that are added to the generic gas that makes one brand different from another. Each brand has it’s own formula of additives.Such blending or adding of these brand chemicals or additives typically takes place when the gasoline is being loaded into a tanker truck for further distribution. In other words all the brands are starting with essentially the same generic gas as their main component. So generic gas is basically the same as the branded gas.Just to make sure, there have been some studies on the difference between generic gas and branded gas. A joint study on this was done by ABC News and the Maryland State Comptroller’s office. The Maryland Fuel Testing Laboratory was where a battery of tests were conducted. The gas was checked for contaminants like excessive sediments or diesel accidentally mixed with the gas. They ran the gas through an elaborate test engine to ensure that the gas was all the same 87 octane level. They even made sure that the gas was formulated correctly for the season. The good news for the consumer is generic and branded gas had nothing but minor differences. They found that by and large the gas was one and the same. The primary difference between competing brands of gasoline is the amount of detergent or additives the distributors add to it. Even then the differences are small. So basically gas is gas and all the gas sold in stations whether it is from a branded station or a generic station will work just fine in your car. The biggest difference it turns out is only price. It is reported that the average gas consumer could save between $100 and $200 per year by using generic gas. To save yourself some cash next time you fill up use the generic station.

Selling a used automobile can be a daunting process, primarily because a lot of people would rather buy a car brand new than run the risk of buying a used one. There are many reasons for this behavior, ranging from practicality to psychology. However, that does not mean that a market for used cars does not exist. On the contrary, there are thousands of people that sell used car regularly and some, with a rather negative reputation, make a living out of it. There are a few things to keep in mind before one goes on to sell used car, though. The first step to check out would be the actual physical condition of the machine. Nobody is going to buy an automobile that looks like it has been through a hurricane. While external damage can be fixed such that the damage would no longer be visible, pay careful attention to the floor pan. Damage there is not as easy to remove as in the rest of the car. Visible damage in the area may force the original owner to lower the price but admitting that the machine has sustained damage is the best option. At the very least, being honest about the damage spares the sellers the hassle of having to explain why they did not mention any previous damage the car has gone through. Note that this step is not as important if the intent on sell used car is for parts and not as a whole vehicle. The next obvious step when someone decides to sell used car is to determine the price. This can be accomplished by research, usually by going through car ads in newspapers or magazines. There are also several websites on the Internet that have similar ads which can be used for comparison. Beyond that, there are also websites that list the current market price of any given model of auto. Note, however, that the above websites list the price for stock vehicles and do not take upgrades, alterations, and modifications into account. The seller should be sure to take into account any previous repair work done, as well as any replacement or upgrade parts on the vehicle. Once all the research has been done and all the upgrades and replacements have been factored into the amount, the seller can then decide on the price.Cleaning the vehicle thoroughly is the next step before anyone can sell used car. This includes both the outside and the inside. The glove compartment, the trunk, and the interior areas of the automobile should be completely void of anything that isn’t part of the car itself. Give the outside a good waxing. If it seems necessary, do something to make the paint job look less aged. Check the outside for scratches, dents, and marks. While the machine does not have to be spotless, it should at least look both presentable and well-maintained.This step should go without saying but for the sake of completion: check if the automobile can still run. Under the assumption that the auto is being sold to someone who wants to drive it, no responsible seller will sell used car that does not run. Since most people will believe they are entitled to a test run, the seller should be prepared to allow the prospective buyer to take the machine out for a test run. Failure to do so can become detrimental to the sale of the car. As with the first step, making sure the engine actually runs is optional if the machine is being sold for parts.Once the above steps have been completed, then the seller can proceed to setting up just how he intends to sell used car in the first place. The above steps are merely for helping any prospective seller out in making sure that the vehicle they intend to sell is in good condition and to avoid any mishaps during the selling process. Once the above steps are completed, the seller then is free to realize that to actually sell used car is a completely different venture.

When driving your car in snowy or any kind of wet weather, it is important to know what needs to be done in order to avoid going into a spin, which causes you to completely lose control of the vehicle. Cars have more trouble in inclement weather, and it sometimes seems that they weren’t meant for snowy weather at all! In fact, it is always recommended that people do not drive in blizzard conditions because of this well-known fact. However, there are those who cannot avoid driving in the snow or any inclement weather due to work or other extenuating circumstances. Then again, cars can spin in the rain as well.Practice Makes PerfectIt isn’t common practice to recommend driving in conditions such as the snow, but if there is a parking lot nearby with no cars present, it is a good idea to practice driving in snowy conditions if it is something you know you cannot avoid. It is important to know how to steer in snowy conditions, how to brake when the roads are slippery, and what to do just in case you ever go into a spin. If you do spin in the empty parking lot, everything should be okay. However, the idea behind practicing is to not go into a spin, and not do any damage to your car so you need a car repair.BrakingWhen braking in bad weather conditions, how you brake depends on the type of vehicle you are driving. If driving a truck, you have to step on the brakes a lot harder than in a car. In cars, you should only have to tap on the brakes gently to avoid sliding or spinning. Spins cause accidents, which might leave you in need of a car repair. In a responsible way (not doing doughnuts in the parking lot), you can practice working your way out of a dangerous skid that can lead to a dangerous spin. This will also come in handy if you ever skid in rainy conditions as well. Through practice, you become more familiar with how your car reacts to slippery conditions and you also become familiar with how to work your way out of skids and spins. On the RoadA great way to avoid a dangerous spin is to keep an eye on the car in front of you and not follow too closely. You may be calm, but there are other people who tend to panic when road conditions are not safe. If you notice that someone is not driving safely, maneuver around them if possible. If it seems that it will be too dangerous to maneuver around them, follow far behind them so that in case they lose control, you have plenty of time to safely brake. Braking too hard can cause you to spin.In instances where black ice may be present, drive safely. Anytime that it is below freezing outside, the chance for black ice exists whether there has been precipitation or not. You never know when someone might throw a McDonald’s cup out their car window and a puddle of soda has frozen on the road. If you do feel the car skid, simply let up off of the gas and under no circumstances hit the brakes. If you do need to hit the brakes, make sure you pump the brake lightly, instead of slamming down on it with your foot. This will help prevent a skid and keep your brakes from locking. This applies to all road conditions. If you are in a skid, steer in the direction of the skid. Steering the opposite direction can make the situation even worse by risking turnover.Practicing in snowy conditions in an empty parking lot can certainly allow you to know your car better. It also prepares you for slippery road conditions of all types during any time of the year. However, it is in the snow that most spinning accidents occur, so it is important to stay very aware of the conditions and of those driving around you in order to be as safe as possible.

Do you have an old vehicle that you no longer drive? If that vehicle still runs, do you plan on doing anything with it? If not, you may want to think about donating it. Car donations are rapidly increasing in popularity. Each year, a fairly large number of individuals and businesses make the decision to donate the cars that they no longer need or what. Why is that? Because there are literally an unlimited number of benefits to donating your car.Perhaps, the greatest benefit of giving your car away, as a car donation, is that you will be helping out a charitable organization that needs it. Many of the receivers of donated cars are non-profit organizations. These non-profit organizations often work to help those that are in need. For instance, many cities have local food pantries. Volunteers may not only need to collect food, but deliver the food to those who need it. Without a vehicle, volunteers may be unable to complete all of their tasks. Your car donation could prevent that from happening. When giving your car away as a donation, you should also be proud. This is another benefit to donating your car. Most individuals, who do donate their cars, are left with a feeling of selflessness and pleasure. Not all individuals make the decision to donate their cars. In fact, if given the opportunity, many car owners would choose to sell their car before donating it to charity. You should be proud of yourself for making to decision to help someone else before helping yourself.Another one of the many benefits to donating your car is that it is relatively easy to do. In fact, when it comes to car donations, you will find that you have a number of different options. First, you could contact all local charities and ask if they would like to acquire your car, as a donation. If you do not have the time to do this, you could contact a company or organization that specializes in car donations. Once they have your car in their possession, they will then search for a charitable organization who could use it. Although you will not necessarily know where your car will end up, you will find that using a car donation company saves you time and maybe even money. As mentioned above, you should be proud of yourself for making the decision to donate your car, instead of selling it for a profit. While it may have been difficult to do, you will not necessarily receive nothing for your good gesture. Depending on whom you donate your vehicle to and the vehicle’s worth, you may be able to receive a car donation tax deduction. It is important to note that you will not be compensated for the whole cost of your car, but it will be better than receiving nothing at all.As you can easily see, there are a number of different benefits to donating your car. No matter which charitable organization it ends up with, it is likely that your car donation will be put to good use.

I bet you can’t tell me whether there are used hybrid cars for sale in the market.Hybrid vehicles are the fast becoming the in thing these days. Since quite a while, vehicle manufacturers who build up and trade hybrid vehicles in the market have been enjoying rapid climb in their already rich sales numbers. That wouldn’t be unexpected on the part of the industry observers who believe the ascending fame of the hybrid vehicles is well-timed and very much behind time. Each week, almost all of the time there are fresh rounds of petrol or gas cost rises, making consumers and vehicle owners prefer to save up more and decrease their tension by investing or replacing their present vehicles with the new hybrid vehicle models. The main achievement of Hybrid vehicles is that they decrease consumers’ dependency on fuel and keep them from being at the clemency of unpredictable cost hikes. The environmental ingredient of the hybrid vehicles also make up for keener interest on the part of the vehicle purchasers to get their personal hybrid vehicles.A long time back, nobody ever thought the vehicle industry would achieve the position it’s enjoying at present. People were only daydreaming of vehicles that would save them enough from petrol and gas savings.Nowadays, those fancies are turning facts. Hybrid vehicles are beginning to turn up the niche once exclusively prevailed by the conventional vehicles.Hybrid cars are easily available. It would only take a short amount of time, possibly a matter of minutes or hours to acquire or buy one. They might come with quite an expensive tag; however, their long-run benefits unquestionably outweigh the short-run affect on wallet.Hybrid vehicles are at present sold in vehicle traders and showrooms all over the world, along with the conventional vehicles. Vehicle making companies must have truly been inspired to take the line up from outstanding reviews and increasing fame of the hybrid vehicles among people.Costs for hybrid vehicles are unsurprisingly more compared to the costs of gas-powered cars. This is due to one main reason: the technology employed in the designing and fabrication of hybrid vehicles is still new. Experts think that it would take a while before the costs for hybrids descend. However, all is not lost if you are in a tight budget, since there are used vehicles available in the market nowadays. People who are itching to have a hybrid vehicle could at once look for the assistance of an agent or vehicle trader to get a used hybrid vehicle that is available for buying. There are a good number of ways you will be able to purchase a used hybrid car in the market. One method is to look for the assistance of a wholesaler; your agent/broker or a vehicle trader. These people could greatly help you in the purchase of used hybrid vehicles. Keep in mind; purchasing one would never be that simple since hybrid vehicles were until now unknown to most people.A Different way is to search for the assistance of an internet vehicle dealer. All you have to do, simply like in shopping conventional vehicles on the internet, is to acquire the quotes printed online, select the vehicle models acquirable, agree to the conditions and terms of the dealing, and the deal will be closed at once.Ultimately, it actually does not matter if you’d be purchasing brand new or used hybrid vehicles. Don’t forget, brand new hybrids are undeniably a great deal costlier compared to the used hybrid vehicles’ costs. Because they all have similar characteristics in any case, whether you are buying a brand new or used hybrid vehicle will not have a lot of affect. Just be sure you have inspected everything and that everything functions perfectly prior to signing any papers.

If you’re sick of paying high gas prices like everyone else in the world, maybe it’s time that you’ve looked into other ways of getting around town. Believe it or not there are many ways you can get around town without having to pay three dollars per gallon or more. We’ve compiled a great list on how you can get from point A to point B at half the cost.Take the busIf you live in a populated area or you live in the outskirts, chances are that you have a busing system. The bus is a great way to get from one point to another without having to pay those ridiculous prices. Almost all city bus systems offer seasonal passes that you can get for little money. If you only want to ride the bus once in a while, it shouldn’t cost more than two dollars or so to ride.If you’re not familiar with your buses scheduled stops, be sure to either check out your state’s transportation website or call up the department of transportation to get more information on where the stops are located and when the bus should arrive.CarpoolingIf you know of someone at work that lives nearby you can possibly bring up the idea of carpooling with one another. If you think about it, this will cut your gasoline consumption in half if you rotate every other day or week. If you don’t know of anyone that can carpool with you at work, many states have car pool programs that can help you find that partner.Carpooling is a great way to save on gas and use your car or someone else’s car at the same time. If you’re afraid that you might be matched up with someone that isn’t right for you or dangerous, don’t worry because the government usually does a pretty good job at weeding these type of people out of the program.Get your exerciseIf you live nearby a grocery store or restaurant and you usually drive to it every time you need to go there, maybe you should think of either purchasing a bike or walking. If you already own a bike, you’re one step ahead. Even if that store is one mile away, this can add up over time and you’re not getting your proper exercise. If you’re worried about not having room for your groceries, you can buy attachments that pop onto your bike that can carry things such as bags, bigger items, etc. There are so many alternatives out there when it comes to driving. There’s no need that you should pay for gas all the time when there are more environmental friendly ways to doing so. The next time you hop in your car or plan on doing so, make sure that you think of alternatives before you do it. Not only will you be saving money, you will be saving the environment as well.

Buying car insurance can be very expensive. Most people are aware that factors such as your age, where you live, your driving record and your credit history influence how much you pay for car insurance every month. But there is one more factor that greatly influences how much you pay for your auto insurance premium every month that most people overlook. What is it? The type of car you drive.A beat-up, old Toyota Camry with 200,000 miles on it is not a brand new red Corvette. Car insurers know that, and they charge accordingly. In general, sports cars are the most expensive cars to insure. Why is that? Well, they’re fast! Sports cars are more likely to get into accidents as owners use their high-performance engines to drive at high speeds. Another reason why sports cars are expensive to insure is because they are stolen more often than other cars. And the more mileage you put on your sports car every year, the more likely you are to get into an accident or have the car stolen, which equals the higher amount you end up paying in car insurance. Many internet sources will tell you which cars are more likely to be stolen. If you want a car that will get low car insurance rates, do some internet research and find out which cars are commonly stolen, and avoid buying those cars.Car safety features are another factor that can raise or lower your insurance premiums. A car with no anti-lock breaks, airbags or without a locking steering wheel will get a higher insurance rate than a car loaded with safety features. If you can, choose a car with as many safety features as possible: airbags in every seat, antilock breaks, a car alarm, a locking steering wheel, daytime running lights and any other option you can afford. Find out if a car has high crash test ratings. Not only will you and your family be safer, you’ll have more spending money as well! The best time to start thinking about how your car will affect your insurance premium is before you even buy it. Use logic, common sense, and don’t be afraid to ask. Quote-generating internet sites can help you see how much you would have to pay to insure a particular car before you buy it. Consider it a part of the total cost of the car. Here are some general principles to follow which will help you choose a car that will get the lowest insurance rates. Once again, choose more safety options if you can. Choose a less flashy car. A minivan will get better rates than an SUV. Choose a “low profile” car that won’t attract attention. Choose a car that isn’t expensive to repair. The more expensive repairs are, the more you will have to pay for auto insurance. In a word, choosing a car that won’t cost a fortune to insure is about prudence. You may drool over that yellow Mustang, but a dark-colored minivan will save you a lot of money. The choice is yours.

Vehicle backover injuries and deaths occur when someone, usually a child, is positioned behind a vehicle as the driver is backing out of a driveway or any other parking spot. Combine this situation with a lack of awareness from the driver as to that person’s presence, maybe because of a blindspot or simple recklessness, and you have a recipe for disaster. Sadly, more often than not, the driver is often a neighbor or relative of the victim. However, since these accidents are not classified as traffic accidents, it is difficult to get the experts to agree on the statistics. This is of course the first step, to study in depth these occurrences.A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report released on November 13, 2006 confirms that there are thousands of injuries and at least 183 deaths each year due to backovers. Since 1994, at least 500 children have died from being backed over, and the safety group Kids and Cars estimates that 50 children are backed over every week and at least two are killed as a result. According to Janette Fennell, founder and president of Kids and Cars, in about 70% of cases, the child is backed over by a parent, grandparent or neighbor.Like others, I believe the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration needs to set a standard for rear visibility that all passenger vehicles must meet, since the the lack of rearward visibility obviously plays an important part in these tragedies. Larger rear-view mirrors, rear sensors or cameras are some of the options that vehicle manufacturers may study in meeting new, stricter standards regarding rearward visibility.Safety Tips for ParentsKeeping your children out of harm’s way requires ongoing education, supervision, and vigilance: there simply is no single fail-safe solution. However, safety experts advise employing the following strategies to help reduce the risk of a backover tragedy occurring:• Ensure your children are properly supervised at all times, especially wherever motor vehicles might be present.• Teach children not to play in, under, or around vehicles — ever.• Always assume children could be present and carefully check the street, driveway, and area around your vehicle before backing out.• Avoid making your driveway a “playground.” If you do allow children in this area, make sure that it’s only when there are no vehicles present. To further protect children who may be outside playing, separate the driveway from the roadway with a physical barrier to prevent any cars from entering.• To prevent curious children from ever putting a vehicle in gear, never leave vehicles running, and keep all vehicles, even those in driveways and garages, locked up tight.• When backing up, always know where all children are and have them stay in your full view and well away from your vehicle.• Look behind you as you back out S-L-O-W-L-Y with your windows rolled down to listen for children who may have dashed behind your vehicle suddenly — and be prepared to stop!• If you’re driving an SUV or truck, remember that the blind spot behind your vehicle can be especially large: use extreme care whenever you back up.Finally, talk with neighborhood parents about backover incidents and ask them to teach their children not to play in or around any vehicle or driveway. By working together to promote awareness and protective home and neighborhood environments, we can help to keep all our children safe.

It’s now time to influence yourself even more before you apply for your first gasoline rewards credit card. Like many things in life, things take time and research before you fully commit. I hope that these points influence you to apply for a gas credit card. You need gas so why not save?Let’s face it. If you live on this planet, the chances you’re driving an automobile around are pretty high. Every automobile needs gas. Wouldn’t it be great to save money every time you fill up your gas pump? In life, you shouldn’t have to pay normal prices on anything, there’s always an exception. With a gas credit card, you’re able to save a percentage of your money every time you put gas in your car.The convenience factorWhenever you go to the gas station, sometimes you just want to pay and leave. Well with any credit card, you can just pay at the pump, pump your gas and hit the road. Every time you use your card, you should feel good inside seeing that you’re saving money on your purchase. The guy pumping up next to you is likely paying full price.Track your expensesLike any credit card you have in your collection, you will most likely receive a statement either in the mail or electronically online. Every time you receive your statement, you’ll be able to see exactly how much you’re spending monthly. The nice thing about getting these statements will allow you change the way you spend or drive each month. Remember, you can change your driving habits and earn more for your dollar. In order to find out how to change your driving habits, you can easily do research online. The reward factorJust because you apply for a gas reward credit card doesn’t mean you can solely use it on gas. In fact, you’ll be able to use it on a lot more purchases. It’s just that your gas purchases will give you the most savings but in some cases, some cards will allow you save even more money on other types of purchases such as grocery, drug stores, etc. The nice thing about this is not only are you saving on your gas fill ups, you’ll be able to save on your groceries as well.History has shown the gas prices as continued to rise with the supply and demand getting higher and higher each year. As I mentioned earlier in this article, you shouldn’t spend top dollar for anything. There’s always a way around it. If you’ve been looking for a way to save on gas or you’ve found the way and you just need more influence, a gas credit card can’t do you any wrong. The worst you can do is apply for a card and if you don’t like it in the long run, you can simply call up the credit card company and cancel. If you like it, continue to use it and save every time you fill up!

Many of us have had the experience of our car breaking down when we’ve been on our way to work or another destination. It is a dreaded thing and is very frightening if you’re in the car alone when it occurs. For those who have never had this experience, there is a good chance that it may happen and if it does, there are things that need to be kept in mind when dealing with a breakdown…particularly on the highway. Is the car doing anything at all?Sometimes a car can have a hiccup and simply stop running for a few minutes. Once you pull the car over to the shoulder, sit there for a couple of minutes before doing anything else. Don’t panic because it may not be much of anything. Sometimes it may be a minor system issue and the car simply needs to ‘reset’ itself. Many of us have experienced those times in which the car died for no reason and then started right back up.However, if you press the on button to your radio and nothing happens, chances are you have a dead car battery. Try to turn the ignition to see if the car turns over at all. If the engine cranks in addition to a clicking sound, then there are a few things that need checked in regards to the battery:• Pop the hood• Check the battery for corrosion at the connection points and make sure the connection is tight. If there is corrosion, clean it and tightly replace the cable connector. If the car still will not start, then the battery is dead.If you do not have a wireless phone to call someone or call roadside assistance, try to remember if you saw any gas stations close by or any businesses. If there are no places close by for you to use a phone or find someone to jump start your car, place a white piece of paper or white cloth in your window to signify that you are in need of help. The police tend to patrol the highways quite often. If you are in a rural area, then you may need to request assistance from a resident nearby.Sometimes a good Samaritan will offer you assistance. However, it is important to not let them in your car while you’re in it and to not get into their vehicle with them. If they want to take you somewhere, tell them you’d like to stay with your car, but if they would be willing to contact roadside assistance for you, that would be great.Other issues that can cause your car to break down are mechanical failure, which you can’t do anything about, and an empty gas tank. It is surprising how many cars are sitting along the side of the road because they ran out of gas and luckily, an empty gas tank can be diagnosed via the gas gauge. It is important to keep a gas can in the trunk of the car in case you run out of gas and need to walk to a gas station. Also, if someone offers you assistance, do not get into a vehicle with them to go to the gas station. Tell them you would like to stay with your vehicle and request that they call roadside assistance for you. You do not necessarily want to give them your gas can and money for gas because you may never see the gasoline. Just keep these things in mind to diagnose small issues with your vehicle and to keep yourself safe when dealing with a car breakdown.
