There’s more bad news on the way for London-based drivers already hit hard by congestion charging, astronomical parking prices and an army of traffic wardens and wheel clampers - those living in
East London are also landed with the most expensive car insurance premiums in the
UK.If that’s no great shock to you, you may be surprised to learn that the nearest rival in a table no-one wants to top is…
Bolton!New research into the most expensive areas in the
UK for car insurance revealed that the top seven most costly postcodes are all from
London or the
North West -
Liverpool, South East London,
Manchester,
Oldham and
Wigan completing the list, respectively.Insurers base their quotes on a number of factors including the levels of car crime in particular areas and the number of reckless drivers in a town. This means that you could be paying excessively on your car insurance just because the town or city you live in has joined an effective ‘blacklist’.So what’s the solution? If you want cheap car insurance you might consider moving to the South West -
Taunton,
Bristol,
Exeter and
Truro all feature among the top ten cheapest areas for car insurance. Then again, if you’re already a resident of
Scotland then you can rest comfortably - with
Inverness and
Aberdeen also appearing on the ‘cheapest car insurance postcodes’ list and
Dundee topping the table. However, if you don’t fancy moving house just to lower your premiums (and let’s face it, who does?) then the best advice is to shop around every year instead of renewing with the same insurer, as each car insurance company weights ‘risk factors’ in different ways.
