Sharp Noise when driving 1998 C220 Diesel

posted in General Information |

I drive a 1998 C 220 DIESEL with 100k miles on it. Sometimes when I’m driving the car, at all kinds of speed and not breaking, I hear a sharp noise. This is a kind of noise just as when you’re breaking when your breaks are worn out. But if I brake quickly or if I take a quick and sharp turn, the noise will stop for a few seconds and then it begins all over again. This problem doesn’t affect the performances of my car, buts I’ve seen a few mechanics and nobody can help me with it. They’ve greassend and cleaned the breaks but nothing helps. I hope you can help me because it’s a really enoying problem.

The simpliest explaination for a sound of this type if everything with the brakes has been checked is a possible slipping belt. Have you reved up the engine while not driving to see if you hear any of these sounds. Additionally you could have worn U-joints, or wear in the real differential. Check the drive shaft and see if appears to be loose or shake at the U joints. The rear differential will need to be checked by a repair shop, but normally makes more of a lower pitched noise when failing.

Good luck with your repair.

James!
